No. 22 Gamecocks in Sixth at Carpet Capital Collegiate

Jack Parrott and Jack Wall paced Carolina with 1-under 71s on Saturday

ROCKY FACE, Ga. — No. 22 South Carolina shot a second round 297 (+9) at the Carpet Capital Collegiate on Saturday. The Gamecocks sit in sixth place heading into the final round on Sunday.

Junior Jack Parrott and freshman Jack Wall paced Carolina, each firing 1-under rounds of 71. It marks the first career under par rounds in Garnet and Black for both players.

“We had a couple of good rounds from a pair of Jacks, but the rest of the hand we were dealt was met with some unfortunate outcomes on a difficult golf course today,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “I’m looking for the guys to come out more focused and ready tomorrow.”

Parrott made the turn at 3-over after a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole. The Columbia, S.C., native, was bogey free coming into the clubhouse with four red numbers on his scorecard. Wall was even after nine holes and carded a 1-under 35 on the back nine that featured a birdie and an eagle. Parrott and Wall are T-18th at 3-over for the tournament.

Sophomore Ryan Hall and senior Caleb Proveaux were the other counting scores. Hall shot a 77 (+5) and Proveaux a 78 (+6).

Senior Jamie Wilson came into the day tied for the lead after an opening round 68 (-4). He made just one birdie on Saturday and shot 79 (+7). He’s also T-18th alongside Parrot and Wall with a 36-hole total of 3-over.

Freshman Nick Mayfield carded an 82 (+10) playing as individual after shooting even par in the opening round, which also was his collegiate debut, on Friday.

No. 3 Georgia Tech has a commanding lead in the team race by 12 shots at 7-under. The Yellow Jackets were the only team in the field to shoot under par for the second consecutive day. Tech’s Luke Schniederjans remains atop the individual leaderboard after a 5-under 67. He’s 9-under overall through 36 holes, seven shots clear of the two golfers T-2nd.
