Hall, Parrott Lead Gamecocks in Opening Round at Isleworth
Duo each shot 74 (+2) in tough R1 for South Carolina on Sunday
WINDERMERE, Fla. — South Carolina got off to a tough start at the 2019 Tavistock Collegiate Invitational on Sunday, shooting 299 (+11). Sophomore Ryan Hall and junior Jack Parrott paced the Gamecocks, each carding 74s (+2).
“The scoreboard doesn’t reflect it, but I thought we looked pretty good today,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “We just had one of those rounds where it seemed like the entire team was just a little off. Everyone fought until the end and we had a really productive practice session after the round. We need to make up some ground tomorrow and get back in contention.”
Hall shot 38 (+2) on the front nine and even par (36) on the back. His scorecard was fairly clean, but the Knoxville, Tenn., native, made just one birdie in the first round. Parrott was 1-under at the turn after shooting 35 the first nine holes. He shot 39 (+3) coming in and was hurt by a double bogey early on the back nine.
Freshman Jack Wall shot 75 (+3). He struggled the first nine holes but battled back, shooting 1-under coming in with three birdies. The Brielle, N.J., native, was hurt by a double-bogey on the par-4 18th hole and the par-4 ninth hole.
Seniors Jamie Wilson and Caleb Proveaux each shot 76 (+4) in the opening round.
The Gamecocks will need some more red numbers to make a move up the leaderboard on Monday as the team had a field-low 12 birdies in round one. Carolina will also need to play better on the par-3s. The team was 9-over (3.45) on the short holes today.
Play resumes in the second round tomorrow morning with Proveaux leading things off for the Gamecocks on hole 10 at 9:15 a.m. ET. Carolina will be paired with West Virginia and UNLV.
