Allden to Host USATF Level 1 School in December

2019 USATF LEVEL 1 SCHOOL

COLUMBIA, S.C. — University of South Carolina track & field assistant coach Andrew Allden will direct a USATF Level 1 School from Dec. 13-15 in Columbia, and registration is still available. Local track & field coaches are welcome to register for the three-day event, with training topics including biomechanics, track & field psychology, training theory, endurance and more.

“I’ve been involved with USA Track and Field coaching education for over 20 years, and part of my work with this has been to try and bring USATF Level 1 coaching courses to South Carolina on a regular basis.,” Allden said. “The course covers everything from the basic sports sciences to give everybody the same background and then we cover every single event area – sprints and hurdles, throws, jumps, middle distance and distance – to try and give everybody the basic information they need if they were to work with club athletes, high school athletes and masters to kind of give everybody the same knowledge base moving forward.”

Registration costs $255 and a current USATF membership is required. Registration and more information can be found here.

This year’s Level 1 clinic will be held at the USC Indoor Track Facility, located at 1304 Heyward Street in Columbia. Parking will be available for $10.

Currently coach of the women’s cross country team at the University of South Carolina, Andrew Allden will be the school’s Endurance instructor. He is a Level 1 and Level 2 instructor, with 23 years of experience as a Division I collegiate coach.  He coached a Division I Men’s National Champion in the 800m and in 2003 was named Southeast Men’s Coach of the Year. Andrew has been involved with Coaching Education since 1993 and is co-author of the Endurance section of the USATF Level 1 textbook.
