Gamecocks Surge to Win Landfall Tradition
Wilmington, N.C. – The South Carolina women’s golf team used a 5-under performance on Sunday to claim the top spot at the Landfall Tradition on the Pete Dye Course at the Country Club of Landfall.
Carolina entered the final round in second place, but strong outings from senior Ana Pelaez and freshman Pauline Roussin-Bouchard helped push the Garnet and Black to the top spot. Pelaez took second in the tournament with a 5-under 211, her best finish since medaling at the 2017 NCAA Columbus Regional.
Roussin-Bouchard wrapped up the first half of her freshman campaign in style, shooting 1-under on Sunday to finish tied for third place. This is her second finish in the top five this year after winning the Windy City Collegiate Classic.
“It was a great effort from the group today,” head coach Kalen Anderson said. “All five of them showed up, which was really fun. They just fought really hard, it’s really windy out there and it was a hard day to score. The team just fought from the first hole on and had a really good day. I loved the mentality they had. It just felt like our day most of the day. We came away with a win and I’m really proud of the mentality they had in some adverse conditions. It was a great way to end this week and the fall season.”
Freshman Mathilde Claisse notched the best finish of her career, tying for 13th place with a 1-over for the tournament. Senior Lois Kaye Go once again provided a steady hand, shooting a 1-over for the day to finish with a 2-over 218 on the weekend.
This marks the first time the Gamecocks have won multiple fall tournaments since the 2014-15 season where Carolina took first place at the ANNIKA Intercollegiate and the Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Championship.
