Gamecocks Excel, Lappin Breaks 100 Butterfly Record Twice
ATLANTA — South Carolina swimming and diving turned in another strong performance on Saturday at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Nine Gamecocks qualified for the A-finals of their events, highlighted by Christina Lappin who twice broke her own 100 butterfly school record.
Lappin opened the day with a record-breaking 52.60 in the 100 butterfly prelims, shaving 0.01 off her existing school record. Later that evening, she lowered the mark again to 52.43, which was good for fifth place in the event’s A-final.
On the night, the Gamecocks registered three top five finishes – senior Albury Higgs in the 100 breaststroke and divers Anton Down-Jenkins and Grant Summers on the 1-meter board.
Gamecock Notables
– Sophomore Hallie Kinsey reached the NCAA B-cut time in the 100 butterfly, while senior Albury Higgs and freshman Taylor Steele hit the mark in the 100 breaststroke. Higgs’ 1:00.81 in the final put her in fifth place in the A-final
– Freshman Emma Alexander and senior Emily Cornell reached the A-Final in the 200 freestyle.
– Senior Lionel Khoo reached the B-cut time in the 100 breast, in which he finished seventh in the A-final, while senior Kevin Liu made the 100 backstroke cut.
– On top of the 100 butterfly, Lappin reached the A-final of the 100 backstroke.
-Divers Anton Down-Jenkins and Grant Summers took home second and third, respectively, in the 1 meter dive.

The Gamecocks return to the pool tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. to finish up their final fall competition.
