QUOTABLES
“We’re just looking to get the young sprint crew the opportunity to see where they are. It gives us a chance to evaluate what kind of shape they are in heading into the holiday break and see if we bring them back in that condition. It gives us a target. Last year we did it, and I think it was really good for us.”– Head Coach Curtis Frye
LAST SEASON AT THE CLEMSON OPENER
Last season the Gamecock sprinters dominated the Clemson Opener, bringing home seven wins in nine of the events they entered.
Returning Gamecocks that highlighted last year’s Clemson opener include Darrell Singleton Jr. who won the 60m with a then-personal record 6.73 in both the prelims and the final for a victory. Stephanie Davis took the top spot in the women’s 200m. She stopped the clock in 24.11, with Amecia Pennamon finishing second.
2016 Olympian Aliyah Abrams paced the field in the 300m, claiming victory with a personal record in the event, 37.45. Caitlyn Little finished second in the 60m hurdles and the 4x400m relay crew that included returners Abrams, Davis, and Pennamon posted a time of 3:44.26 to win by more than nine seconds.
