Gamecocks Make History with No. 2 Doubles and No. 10 Singles Rankings

TEMPE, Ariz. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team makes history, yet again, claiming the highest-ranked singles and doubles positions in program history in the newest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) polls announced on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 20).
 
Senior Ingrid Gamarra Martins climbed to No. 10 from the No. 16 position, breaking her previous high of No. 12. Gamarra Martins sits at an overall record of 15-5, including 5-2 in dual matches at the No. 1 spot.
 
In doubles, Gamarra Martins and junior Mia Horvit surpassed their own history-making ranking, earned just two weeks ago, coming at No. 2 on the list. The tandem plays at the top spot for Carolina and has tallied a 4-1 record. Overall, Gamarra Martins and Horvit are 14-3 and have a mark of 7-2 in their last 10 matches, with one going unfinished.
 
As a team, the Gamecocks matched their second-best ranking, rising three spots to the No. 6 position. So far this season, South Carolina is 5-2 overall with two top-20 wins, including No. 9 Oklahoma State (4-1) and No. T-20 Texas Tech (4-1). The Gamecocks went toe-to-toe with No. 8-ranked UCLA, falling, 4-3, and showing they are deserving of a top-10 selection and higher.
 
Carolina has two other players individually ranked in No. 38 senior Paige Cline and No. 95 Horvit. Competing at the No. 2 spot, Cline has a record of 3-2 and is 12-5 overall. Horvit has a mark of 12-4 and sits at 5-2 at No. 3 in the lineup.
 
Rounding out the doubles poll for the Gamecocks, senior Rachel Rohrabacher and sophomore Megan Davies come in at No. 34. The duo holds an overall record of 11-7 and is 3-1 in dual matches at the No. 2 spot.
 
Up next, Carolina hosts Presbyterian and Coastal Carolina at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively, on Saturday, Feb. 23.
