Chinellato Honored as SEC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina junior Silvia Chinellato has been named SEC Women’s Player of the Week after going 4-0 against Clemson and No. 20T Texas Tech this past weekend.
 
Chinellato’s recognition is now Carolina’s second-straight with Mia Horvit being honored last week.
 
Chinellato finished the weekend undefeated, going 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles. Chinellato began by facing in-state rival and Palmetto Series foe, Clemson. Her and partner Paige Cline stormed to a, 6-3, win opposite of Alex Angyalosy and Laura Marti on court three, clinching the doubles point for Carolina. Facing Angyalosy in singles, Chinellato easily handled her, finishing first, 6-1, 6-1, and putting the Gamecocks up, 2-0.
 
Against Texas Tech, South Carolina had claimed one doubles match and needed just one more win. After being down every other point, Chinellato and Cline found their groove, taking two-straight games for a, 6-4, victory and the doubles point. With the score at 2-1, Gamecocks, Chinellato defeated Kennedy Bridgforth in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, giving Carolina a comfortable, 3-1, lead and allowing three of her teammates the opportunity to clinch the match.
 
This season, Chinellato is 8-3 overall, including an undefeated 3-0 mark in duals. The junior is on a six-match win streak, dating back to November 4 at the Kitty Harrison Invitational. In doubles, Chinellato sits at an even 5-5 mark. Since teaming back up on January 31, Chinellato and Cline have moved to 3-4 overall, winning two-straight.
 
With the help of Chinellato, the Gamecocks have claimed the doubles point in each of their five matches and have won four-consecutive matches by wide margins, including California (4-1), Wake Forest (4-0), Clemson (6-1) and No. 20T Texas Tech (4-1).
 
Next, Carolina travels to the ITA National Team Indoors in Seattle, taking place from Feb. 8-11.
