Gamecocks Continue Zone Diving Championships

Anton Down-Jenkins and Mikaela Lujan each finished top-six in their respective events on day two.

AUBURN, Ala.- South Carolina divers Anton Down-Jenkins (3-meter) and Mikaela Lujan (1-meter) each finished inside the top six of their respective events on the second night of the Zone B Diving Championships in the James E. Martin Aquatic Center.

Down-Jenkins and Lujan needed only to finish 12th or better in their events on day two to qualify for the NCAA Championships after they each reached qualifying standards in the one-meter and three-meter, respectively, on Monday.

Lujan put up a 46.68 average during prelims to qualify for the second phase of the women’s one-meter competition in eighth.  She went on to tally a 277.55 in her six finals dives to finish the competition in sixth, qualifying her to compete in the event at the NCAA Championships next week.

Down-Jenkins spent the entirety of the men’s 3-meter competition in the top three, advancing into the finals session in third-place with a 371.80 prelims score. He went on to finish his 12-dive event with a total score of 792.30, highlighted by two separate dives over 70.00 during the finals session.  The true freshman will now compete in both springboard events at the NCAA Championships later this month.

South Carolina will conclude the Zone B Diving Championships tomorrow with the men’s and women’s platform competitions beginning with women’s prelims at 11 a.m. ET.

Day 3- Wed., March 12
– 11 a.m. ET: Women’s platform prelims
– 1 p.m. ET: Women’s platform finals
– 3:15 p.m. ET:  Men’s platform prelims
– 5:15 p.m. ET: Men’s platform finals

Zone B Qualifying Standards:
Women’s 1-meter – Top-9
Women’s 3-meter – Top-8
Women’s platform – Top-6
Men’s 1-meter – Top-6
Men’s 3-meter – Top-7
Men’s platform – Top-9
* if a diver qualifies in 1 event, he/she may compete at NCAAs in any event in which he/she finishes top-12
