Gamecocks Hit the Road for a Pair of Matches
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 25-ranked South Carolina women’s tennis team is back on the road this weekend, heading to Lubbock, Texas, where it will face Texas Tech, as well as Denver in a neutral-site match, at the McLeod Tennis Center.
Up first, the Gamecocks (2-2) take on the Red Raiders (2-2) on Friday at 12 p.m. ET. The two programs met for the first time last year at the Carolina Tennis Center with Carolina coming out on top, 4-1.
In their second match of the weekend, the Gamecocks will compete against Denver (4-2) on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET. This match serves as the first meeting between the two programs.
SOUTH CAROLINA
This season, Carolina has notched wins over Purdue (4-0) and Clemson (6-1). Individually, freshman Emma Shelton is undefeated, going 3-0 at the No. 4 position and 1-0 when playing on court three.
In the rankings, the Gamecocks have two singles players and one doubles team in the Oracle/ITA polls. Junior Megan Davies sits at No. 22, while senior Mia Horvit holds the No. 25 spot, both career-highs for the Gamecocks. In doubles, senior Silvia Chinellato and Shelton have claimed the No. 20 ranking.
TEXAS TECH
The Red Raiders’ two wins came against Iowa (4-1) and Carolina’s SEC foe, Mississippi State (4-1). Representing Texas Tech in the rankings are two doubles teams in No. 35 Lisa Mays and Nell Miller, as well as No. 52-ranked Olivia Peet and Margarita Skriabina. Peet and Skriabina are undefeated on the season with a perfect 4-0 mark at the No. 2 position.
DENVER
The Pioneers bring four wins into the weekend, defeating Air Force (7-0), Gonzaga (6-1), South Florida (4-0) and DePaul (4-3). Anna Riedmiller has yet to lose a singles match this dual season, holding a 4-0 record on court two.
