Gamecocks Finish Tiger Paw Invite

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of South Carolina track team wrapped up its time at the Tiger Paw Invitational on Saturday. Alycia Springs picked up a collegiate win for the Gamecocks in the women’s shot put to highlight the weekend filled with 20 personal bests for the Garnet and Black.

“We had some ups and downs this weekend, but we ended on a good note,” South Carolina head coach Curtis Frye said. “We had the second fastest time of the year without Quincy on the 4x400m relay and our girls, despite dropping the baton, still ran a 3:37. We know we have work to do and we still have time to do it before nationals.”

The win for Springs is a breakout for the Carolina senior. Her throw of 15.85m (52-0) is her personal best indoors and moves her to No. 9 on the South Carolina indoor top 10 list and No. 34 in the country this season. The collegiate win for Springs is also her first indoors in her career.

Along with Springs, Hannifah Abdulqadir had a great day in the field for the Gamecocks. The senior finished third in the triple jump by tying her personal record of 13.21m (43-4 1/4) that she set back in 2018. Abdulqadir’s third place finish was also good enough for second among collegiate athletes and puts her at No. 15 in the country this season.

Anna Kathryn Stoddard followed up her impressive 5000m time last week with another Carolina top 10 performance in the 3000m this week. She finished in third with a time of 9:48.44, just a few seconds off her personal best.

In all, the Gamecocks finished with 13 top eight finishes at the Tiger Paw Invitational. For a recap on day one of the Tiger Paw Invitational, click here.
