Gamecocks Lock In for NCAA Zone B Diving Championships

COLUMBIA, S.C— South Carolina diving will begin their final stretch of their season Monday, as they travel to Athens, Ga. for the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships. The five Gamecocks will dive across three different events in attempt to advance to the NCAA Championships.

South Carolina will compete against divers from 16 other schools for the right to dive at the NCAA Championships. If a diver qualifies in one event, they can compete at NCAAs if they finish in the top 12 in other eligible events.

For the women, freshman Mathilda Roxne and junior Yu Qian Goh will compete in the event. Both Gamecocks will compete in the one-meter and three-meter competitions. On the men’s side, sophomore Anton Down-Jenkins and junior Grant Summers will represent the Garnet and Black on the one and three meter boards, while sophomore Alex Clause will compete in both springboards and the platform event.

QUOATABLE HEAD COACH TODD SHERRIT
“Looking forward to the NCAA Zone championships this week. This meet always has great competition and has a lot of depth. This is one of the toughest zones in the country, having most of the SEC teams and the ACC represented makes it a real challenge. It requires a lot of endurance and focus to qualify out as they are diving with anywhere between 40 and 50 per event. Our divers are going to have to really step up and perform here to make the next meet. Everyone is prepared and training has been going well so we’ll see what happens. We certainly are good enough to get some divers out of here. But they’re going to have to bring their best game.”
