Down-Jenkins Makes History, Doubles Up on One Meter

COLUMBIA, S.C— After taking the crown in the Zone B three-meter competition, South Carolina sophomore Anton Down-Jenkins repeated his performance on the one-meter board Tuesday afternoon. Down-Jenkins becomes the first ever student-athlete to win both boards at Zone B.

After placing second in the qualifying round with a score of 338.70, Down-Jenkins dominated the latter half of the competition. The Wellington, New Zealand, native scored over a 57 on all but one of his dives to end competition with a 700.85 score.

For the women, junior Yu Qian Goh advanced to the women’s three-meter final, placing 16th.

Quotable Head Coach Todd Sherritt
“We had another great day today. We put two divers in the finals tonight. Yu Qian hit a solid meet and ended up 16th. Not high enough to make the NCAA’s but a personal High finish for her. Anton had another great day. Ended up dominating the one meter winning it by 33 points. First male diver to ever win both 1 and 3 meter at the Zone. He has put himself in position to have an excellent NCAA’S. Looking forward to getting back to work and get ready for this year’s Nationals. Indianapolis has been a good pool for our athletes in the past looking to continue that in a couple weeks.”
