Gamecocks Ready for ITA Kick-Off Weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The South Carolina women’s tennis team is set to host its third-straight ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Saturday and Sunday at the Carolina Tennis Center.
 
The No. 13 Gamecocks (0-1) are the No. 1 seed for the weekend, along with No. 2 Georgia Tech (6-0), No. 3 Wisconsin (0-0) and No. 4 Purdue (3-0). First up, Carolina and Purdue face off at 10 a.m. ET, followed by the Yellow Jackets and Badgers at 1 p.m. ET.
 
The winners of Saturday’s matches will compete on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET for the championship and a spot at the ITA DI National Women’s Team Indoors. The consolation match will be played at 10 a.m. ET on Sunday between the remaining two programs.
 
South Carolina
 
Carolina is coming off of a, 6-1, loss against No. 8-ranked N.C. State on the road. The Gamecocks played a close match with the Wolfpack, pushing close doubles matches and sending three singles matches to three sets.
 
South Carolina brings two ranked singles players to the weekend in No. 27 Mia Horvit and No. 28 Megan Davies.
 
Georgia Tech
 
The Yellow Jackets are undefeated heading into the weekend, collecting wins against Kennesaw State, twice, (4-0, 4-0), Furman (4-3), Presbyterian (4-0) and two against Mercer (7-0, 4-0).
 
Georgia Tech’s roster houses two ranked individuals, as well as a doubles team, including No. 53 Kenya Jones, No. 73 Gia Cohen and No. 51 Jones and Victoria Flores.
 
Wisconsin
 
ITA Kick-Off Weekend will be the Badgers’ first dual matches of the season, having only competed at the Metroplex Mania this spring.
 
Purdue
 
The Boilermakers have secured three wins thus far into the dual season. They have topped Xavier (6-1), Miami (Ohio, 5-2) and Butler (7-0).
 
This weekend serves as the first chance to pick up the 2020 women’s tennis poster. Entry is free to all fans at the Carolina Tennis Center. The first 50 fans will receive Munchkins and coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts.
