Gamecocks Take Seventh at Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate

Ryan Hall T-6th (-7) after shooting 67 (-3) in the final round on Tuesday

VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. — South Carolina shot a final round 285 (+5) to finish seventh at the all-SEC, Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. The Gamecocks posted a 54-hole total of 838 (-2) on the par-70 track at Old Overton Club.

Junior Ryan Hall led the team in round three with a 67 (-3) that featured five birdies. The Knoxville, Tenn., native T-6th at 7-under overall for the tournament. Hall’s top-10 finish is his first of the 2020-21 season and the fourth of his career. He finished in the top-20 in all three of the team’s all-SEC fall events.

Super senior All-American Jamie Wilson carded an even par round of 70. He finished the tournament at even par overall (T-29th). Fellow super senior Caleb Proveaux shot 72 (+2) to finish T-12th at 4-under. The Lexington, S.C., native, now has 11 career top-20 finishes (two in three starts this season).

Junior Jack Wall was the final counting score with a round three 76 (+6). True freshman Liam Shinn, who was making his Gamecock debut this week, shot 77 (+7). Despite a tough final round, Shinn managed to tally 10 birdies in his first collegiate start – good for third on the team.

“Ryan had a really good tournament and Caleb played well this week,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “We just had a couple of guys struggle today and it hurt us. It’s hard to win a dog race with a three-legged dog.”

There was a three-team tie at the top of the leaderboard between Auburn, Vanderbilt and Georgia at 19-under (821). The Tigers took home the hardware in a playoff. Individually, Ole Miss’ Jackson Suber and Mississippi State’s Ford Clegg tied for co-medalist honors at 12-under (198).

South Carolina’s abbreviated, all-SEC fall season is now over. Stay tuned to GamecocksOnline.com for the latest updates on the team’s 2021 spring schedule.
