Gamecocks 10th After Three Days at Men's SEC Championship

Luke Massey led Carolina with a 16th place finish in the 100 breast Thursday night

COLUMBIA, Mo. — South Carolina is in 10th after three days of the SEC Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships with 219 team points. The Gamecocks had four finalists on Thursday night, led by junior Luke Massey.
 
The Tennessee transfer earned a spot in the B-final of the 100 breast with a new PR of 52.93, good for the four-fastest time in program history. Massey swam 53.64 in the finals to take 16th in the event.
 
Tamas Novoszath and Phil Costin both qualified for the C-final of the 200 free. Novoszath finished 19th with a new PR of 1:36.20 in the finals and Costin took 24th with a finals time of 1:38.46.
 
Guy Gropper took 23rd in the 100 fly with a time of 47.73 in the C-final. Gropper (back, 48.84), Massey (breast, 52.43), Jordan Yip Zhu Ern (fly, 48.02) and Mark Shperkin (free, 42.78) swam the eighth-fastest time in program history at 3:12.07.
 
The Gamecocks finished the night with a ninth-place finish in the 400-medley relay.
 
Prelims for the final day of the conference meet begin at 11 a.m. ET on Friday. The 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast and 200 fly will be on the schedule for the morning session. The 1650 free will kick off finals at 7 p.m. ET with the 400 free relay the final race of the meet. SEC Network+ will carry a live stream of both sessions.
