CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — No. 17 South Carolina softball split a pair of games Saturday against UConn and North Carolina on the second day of the Carolina Classic at Anderson Stadium. The Gamecocks started the day with a 7-6 comeback victory over the Huskies in eight innings before closing it with a 3-0 loss to the Tar Heels.

With the win over UConn, South Carolina (11-3, 0-0 SEC) moved to the championship game of the weekend on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. ET against North Carolina. The game will stream on ACCN Extra while live stats will be provided through gamecocksonline.com.

SOUTH CAROLINA 7 | UCONN 6 (8) – RECAP
The Gamecocks were down 6-1 through four innings but found a way to win in a thrilling 7-6 victory over UConn in eight innings to open the Saturday portion of the Carolina Classic. Freshman Zoe Laneaux posted a 2-for-4 afternoon with four RBI and a run scored as Carolina earned its spot in Sunday’s championship game at 12:30 p.m.

Carolina trailed the Huskies from the second out in the bottom of the first, all the way to the second out of the top of the seventh, before Laneaux’s two-out hit in the seventh tied the contest at 6-6.

Adhering to international tie-breaker rules, the Gamecocks started the eighth with a runner on second and took advantage as freshman Maddie Gallagher’s double to start the frame scored a run and proved to be the difference in the Garnet and Black’s 7-6 win.

South Carolina’s most productive inning came in the fifth as the Gamecocks scored four runs to pull within one run of the Huskies. A Kassidy Krupit RBI sacrifice fly out and three-run Laneaux home run were the run-producing plays in the inning to cut the UConn lead to 6-5.

Bailey Betenbaugh (4-0) earned the win in four innings of work with six strikeouts. She allowed just one hit and no runs.

SOUTH CAROLINA 0 | NORTH CAROLINA 3 – RECAP
South Carolina dropped a hard-fought 3-0 game to North Carolina (7-5) in the second game of the day.

The Tar Heels scored one in the first, one in the fourth and an additional in the sixth and they proved to be enough as Brittany Pickett (6-2) went the distance in the win. Kelsey Oh (1-2) took the loss in three innings of work.
