Gamecocks Open Play at Tiger Invitational Monday

Teams will play 36 holes on Monday due to impending weather

OPELIKA, Ala. — South Carolina men’s golf is back on the course this week at the Tiger Invitational. Due to impending weather, teams will play 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. ET.

Teams will attempt to complete 54 holes by Wednesday evening at the Lake Course at Grand National, weather permitting.

The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 21 Arkansas and No. 37 UAB for day one.

It’s the same lineup for Carolina as the LSU Invitational, marking the first time in the 2020-21 season the team has gone with same five in consecutive events.

It’s another SEC-heavy field with 13 of the 17 teams hailing from the Southeastern Conference.

“The one thing about our schedule, and its been this way all year, is you have to bring it every week,” said head coach Bill McDonald. “By the time we finish our season it might be one of the most difficult college golf schedules ever played. You’ve got five or six SEC Championships more or less with mostly SEC teams. A lot of the other teams that are coming in and playing with us are very good as well. We’ve got to bring it every week. We learned our lesson in Gainesville and hopefully that’ll pay dividends going forward.”

Live scoring for this week’s tournament will be available via Golfstat.
