Gamecocks Sixth After 36 Holes of Tiger Invitational

Ryan Hall and Jamie Wilson each T-12th at 4-under to lead Carolina

OPELIKA, Ala. — South Carolina fired two under par rounds on day one of the Tiger Invitational on Monday. The Gamecocks are in sixth place at 9-under overall after posting scores of 283 (-5) and 284 (-4) at Grand National’s Lake Course.
 
Junior Ryan Hall continued his lights out play, leading the team with a 4-under 68 in round two that featured five birdies. The Knoxville, Tenn., native shot 72 (E) in round one this morning and is T-12th overall at 4-under through 36 holes. Hall, who has recorded three straight top-10s and finished in the top-20 in every start this season, was recently named to the Haskins Award Watch List.
 
Super senior All-American Jamie Wilson had his best showing of the season today. He’s also T-12th with Hall at 4-under after shooting 71 (-1) in the opening round and 69 (-3) in round two. Wilson is seeking his first top-10 of the season (eight career).
 
Sophomore Jack Wall shot 72 (E) to start the day and followed that with a 71 (-1) this evening. He led the team in round two with seven birdies. Wall is T-30th at 1-under overall. Super senior Caleb Proveaux paced Carolina in the opening round round with a 68 (-4) that was fueled by six birdies. He shot 76 (+4) in round two, hurt by a pair of double bogeys.
 
Sophomore Nick Mayfield, the final player in the lineup this week, shot 78 (+6) and 79 (+7). Senior Andrew Spiegler, who is playing as an individual this week, recorded the same scores.
 
No. 16 Auburn, the host school, leads by three shots over Alabama at 20-under. The Tigers shot a field-best score of 274 (-14) in round two to climb up the leaderboard. Davis Thompson of No. 13 Georgia leads by one over the Tide’s Wilson Furr at 11-under in the race for individual medalist.
 
The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 14 Vanderbilt and No. 20 Tennessee for the final round. It’s a shotgun start for the field on Tuesday at 10 a.m. ET with hopes to finish the tournament prior to inclement weather rolling in.
