Chang Earns CoSIDA Academic Honor for Second Time

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina senior midfielder Lauren Chang has been named to the women’s soccer CoSIDA Academic District 4 Team, the organization announced Thursday afternoon.

The honor is the second of Chang’s career after she was honored in 2019. She will now be placed on the CoSIDA Academic All-America Team ballot. First-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be revealed in July.

Chang, who is now pursuing a graduate degree in Business Administration in the Darla Moore School of Business, boasts an outstanding cumulative GPA of 3.833. The Alpharetta, Ga., native’s honor adds to her long list of accomplishments in her career. She was named to the All-SEC Second Team for the third time in her career this year after leading the team with five assists and adding a pair of goals during the shortened season. She was a captain for Carolina this season and started all 16 matches in the midfield. On top of this academic honor, Chang was also named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region teams in May.

Chang will return to the Gamecocks this fall for a fifth-year. South Carolina finished the 2020-21 season in the NCAA Tournament Second Round after defeating Montana in the opening round. The Gamecocks finished the season with an 11-5-0 record and a 6-2-0 record in the SEC.
