South Carolina Notches Five Wins on Day One of Gamecock Shootout

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina went undefeated in doubles on day one of the Gamecock Shootout and junior Elise Mills upset the No. 105 singles player. The Gamecocks played in the Carolina Indoor Tennis Center, marking the team’s first competition in the new facility.

In doubles, the Gamecocks shined. Chloe Narboni and Kendall Couch kicked things off for the Gamecocks when they quickly topped Kathleen Jones and Dani Schoenly of Ohio State 6-2. With the win, Narboni and Couch became the first Gamecocks to win a match in the new Carolina Indoor Tennis Center.

South Carolina dominated on the remaining three courts. No. 40 Megan Davies and Allie Gretkowski posted an impressive 6-2 win over Lucia Marzal and Kolie Allen of Ohio State. Additionally, Elise Mills and Lindsay Tulenko notched a victory over Michigan’s Julia Fliegner and Nicole Hammond in a 6-2 decision.

The last to wrap up doubles play, Gracie Mulville and Ana Cruz faced Sydni Ratliff and Madeline Atway of Ohio State. The South Carolina pair earned a 6-3 win over the Buckeyes to complete South Carolina’s perfect day in doubles.

In singles, Elise Mills took on No. 105 Isabelle Boulais of Ohio State. The South Carolina veteran efficiently won her first set 6-3, but Boulais came back to win the second set 6-2 and forced a third set. Mills remained solid, taking the third set in a commanding 6-1 decision to upset her first ranked opponent of the season.
