Gamecocks Take Home Conference USA Honors

Four players take home honors

DALLAS, TEXAS —- South Carolina men’s soccer had four Gamecocks earn Conference USA honors, the league office announced Tuesday. Sophomore Brian Banahan was named First Team All-C-USA, freshman Peter Clement was named Second Team All-C-USA while freshman Christian Kraus was selected to the Third Team All-C-USA.

Clement, Justin Kopay and Kraus were named to the All-Freshman Team as well.

Banahan is the first Gamecock to be selected to the first team since Luca Mayr in 2017 while the three selections to the first, second and third teams are the most since 2018. The three All-Freshman honors are the most in program history.

Showing that there’s plenty to look forward to in the future, South Carolina was the only school in to have three players selected to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

“I want to congratulate our guys on their All-Conference selections,” head coach Mark Berson said. “This was a young group, and that was reflected on the number of players that made the All-Freshman Team. This group is on an upward trajectory and I am excited for them and what they will do in the future.”

South Carolina finished the 2020-21 season with an 8-7-1 record after winning two of the final three matches. The Gamecocks honored Berson throughout the year as he is set to retire at the end of the season after 43 years in charge of the program with 522 wins.
