Gamecocks set to Host Three-Day Carolina Classic

COLUMBIA, S.C. – South Carolina softball welcomes in four teams, Ohio State, #7 Virginia Tech, Troy, and Miami (OH), for the Carolina Classic February 25-27 at the Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field.

• The Gamecocks lead the all-time series against Ohio State 3-1, including a win in Columbia in 2020.
• All-time, Carolina and Virginia Tech are tied 7-7. The Hokies won their last meeting in 2020, with the Gamecock’s last victory coming at home in 2017.
• South Carolina leads the series against Troy 6-2. The two teams split their series in 2020, in Columbia.
• The Gamecocks are 7-0 all-time against Miami, with their last meeting coming in 2018. The two teams have met just twice this century, the other coming in 2007.
• Last season the Carolina Classic was cancelled due to weather.
• The 2020 version of the tournament featured Ohio State, North Dakota State, Southern Illinois, and UNC Greensboro. The Gamecocks went 4-0.
• The tournament took a year off during the 2019 season.
• The Gamecocks opened the season at home for the third straight year. Last season the team opened the season with Carolina Classic, but was canceled due to weather. 
• South Carolina has opened the season at home in 7 of 12 seasons under Bev Smith.
• The 2022 roster features 21 total players. A total of seven different states are represented.
