Schultz Earns Two NCAA Event Berths

Atlanta,  Ga. – South Carolina graduate diver Brooke Schultz qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events. She placed third in the 1-meter springboard at the Zone B Diving Championships and won the 3-meter event, setting a new school record in the process.
 
In Sunday’s 1-meter competition, Schultz placed third in the preliminary round with a 313.40 to qualify for the finals. She added 333.40 points during the final to retain her third-place position and earn a trip to the NCAA Championships.
 
Freshman Sophie Verzyl placed 15th in the prelims with a 268.10 to make the finals where she added 282.30 points to jump to 12th place overall. Verzyl was just shy of qualifying for NCAAs with the top 10 divers making the cut.
 
In the 3-meter, Schultz placed first in the prelims with a 375.65 to qualify for the finals. She added another 377.05 to her total in the finals to win the event and earn another bid at an NCAA title.
 
Schultz’s 12-dive score of 752.70 in the 3-meter is a new school record. She added 30 points to the previous record to claim her second mark in the program record book. The previous record of 722.70 was set by Julia Vincent in 2015.
 
Schultz swept the springboard events at the SEC Championships in February and was named the Diver of the Meet. She set both a school and a pool record with a score of 407.30 in the 3-meter event.
 
This will be Schultz’s fourth trip to the NCAA Championships. She won the 3-meter title in 2018, placed second in the 3-meter in 2019, and placed third in the 1-meter in 2021.
 
Competition will continue at the Zone B Diving Championships for senior Alex Claus and junior Manny Vazquez Bas through March 9. Claus and Vazquez Bas with both compete in the 3-meter competition on Tuesday, March 8, and Vazquez Bas will compete in the platform on Wednesday, March 9.
 
The women’s NCAA Championships will take place at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center March 16-19. The 1-meter competition will take place on Thursday, March 17,  and the 3-meter will be on Friday, March 18.
