Gamecocks Finish Spring Slate at Augusta Haskins Award Invitational
Senior All-American Ryan Hall the defending champion of the event ; PGA TOUR start on the line this week
AUGUSTA, Ga. — South Carolina has made the trek down I-20 for the regular season finale at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational this weekend. Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday with the final round to be played Sunday.
Every team in the field will be attending Monday’s practice round at The Masters.
The winner of this week’s event earns a sponsor’s exemption into the PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship at Copperhead Course next spring.
Senior All-American Ryan Hall, fresh off another top-five finish, returns to Forest Hills Golf Club as defending champion. He trailed by five shots in the final round and carded a 64 (-8) to force a playoff with Pepperdine’s Dylan Menante where he would eventually win on the second sudden death hole.
Hall is joined in the lineup by the same four players its been all spring for the Gamecocks. Junior Jack Wall, redshirt senior Evans Lewis, freshman Nathan Franks and sophomore Rafe Reynolds will all compete against a strong field this week that features seven top-50 teams, including three ranked in the top-15 of the latest Golfstat Team Rankings.
South Carolina has been on a roll this spring with a pair of wins, a second-place finish and a 278.92 team scoring average in four events.
The Gamecocks will be paired with No. 24 Illinois and Georgia State for the first 36 holes on Saturday. It’s an 8:30 a.m. (ET) shotgun start and Carolina will tee off on holes five through eight. Live scoring will be available via Golfstat.
