Six Gamecocks Dot 2022 MLB Opening Day Rosters

The MLB Opening Day is Thursday, April 7.

COLUMBIA – Six University of South Carolina baseball alumni will be on active rosters for Opening Day of the 2022 Major League Baseball season, which starts on Thursday, April 7.
 
Jackie Bradley Jr., returns to the Boston Red Sox for the 2022 season. He played in Boston from 2013-20 before playing Milwaukee last season. Wil Crowe is back for his second season with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He made 25 starts for the Pirates in 2021. Whit Merrifield is coming off an All-Star season in 2021 for the Kansas City Royals where he had 42 doubles and 74 RBI. Jordan Montgomery made 30 starts last year for the New York Yankees and had a 3.83 ERA. Clarke Schmidt joins Montgomery on the 2022 Yankees Opening Day roster. Schmdit made two appearances last season for the Yankees and earned the James P. Dawson Award with the club in Spring Training. Christian Walker returns for a sixth season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He had 23 doubles and 10 home runs last year with the club.
 
A pair of Gamecocks are on the injured list to start 2022. Max Schrock is on the Cincinnati Reds’ IL and Cody Morris is on the Cleveland Guardians’ 60-day IL.
