Gamecocks Begin Season Sunday in Puerto Rico

Carolina opening spring portion of its season for second-straight year at Puerto Rico Classic
RIO GRANDE, P.R. – South Carolina kicks off the spring on Sunday at the Puerto Rico Classic for the second consecutive season. The Gamecocks will be one of four SEC teams in the field this week alongside No. 9 Tennessee, Georgia and Ole Miss.
“We’re looking forward to getting our spring season started down in Puerto Rico. Grand Reserve was in great condition last year, and we’re expecting the same setup with the PGA Tour event being held there in a couple of weeks. Our guys have been working hard during the offseason and I know they’re excited to get going.”
2022 NCAA Championship qualifier Evans Lewis mans the top spot in the lineup this week. He’s joined by sophomore Nathan Franks, transfer Lansdon Robbins, junior Rafe Reynolds and freshman Zach Adams. Freshman Walker Jennings will be making his Gamecock debut playing as an individual.
It’s a solid 13-team field with a mix of SEC and Big Ten squads. Seven teams are ranked in the top-50 of the latest Golfstat Team Rankings.
The Gamecocks will be paired with Ole Miss and Marquette for the first round. It’s a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m. (ET).
