Schultz Earns All-America Status at NCAAs
Knoxville, Tenn. – South Carolina graduated diver Brooke Schultz was named an Honorable Mention All-American at the NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships on Thursday for her performance on the 1-meter springboard.
In the prelims, Schultz just barely missed the A-final, claiming ninth place overall out of a field of 50 competitors with a score of 286.15. Her placement earned her a spot as the top seed in the consolation finals.
In the finals, Schultz took the lead early and never looked back, finishing with a final score of 318.35 for first place in the consolation and ninth place overall. Her spot in the consolation final grants her Honorable Mention All-America status in the event.
Schultz’s results were a repeat of last year’s NCAAs where she also won the consolation final and was named an Honorable Mention All-American.
Also in the 1-meter competition was sophomore Sophie Verzyl who was making her first appearance at the Championships. Verzyl has a strong showing, finishing 23rd out of 50 with a score of 260.05. The prelims were tight with only 6.60 points separating Verzyl from a spot in the consolation final.
On the swim side of things, graduate Victoria Kwan had the highest individual event finish of the day, coming in at No. 23 in the 200 IM prelims out of a field of 65 competitors. Kwan finished with a time of 1:56.41.
