Vazquez Bas Completes First Day at NCAA Championships

Minneapolis, Minn. – South Carolina diver Manny Vazquez Bas competed on the the first full day of action at the NCAA Championships on Thursday. The senior made an appearance in the prelims of the 1-meter springboard.

Vazquez Bas placed 47th overall with a score of 285.70. He started strong with a 52 point dive, but stumbled on his second dive, only picking up 24 points. He got back on track in the third round with a 57.60 point dive and finished the competition strong with an inward two and a half somersault tuck that gathered him 58.90 points.

Vazquez Bas will have another opportunity tomorrow, competing in the 3-meter event. Sophomore swimmer Michael Laitarovsky will also see action tomorrow, competeing in the 100 back. Prelims at the Championships will begin at 11 a.m. ET with finals to follow at 7 p.m. ET. Live streaming for all sessions will be available on ESPN+.
