Sumter native Evans Lewis, who finished T-2nd at last year's event, leads Carolina in strong field of competition

AUGUSTA, Ga. – South Carolina concludes the regular season this weekend, helping kickoff Masters week at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational (April 1-2). Teams will play 36 holes on Saturday with the final round taking place on Sunday.

Per tradition every year, teams and coaches will receive complimentary tickets to Monday’s practice round at the Masters Tournament. The winner of this week’s event also gets an exemption into the PGA TOUR’s Valspar Championship next March.

South Carolina finished fifth at last year’s event with a 54-hole total of 859 (-5). Fifth-year senior Evans Lewis had the best showing of his career with a runner-up medalist finish thanks to a score of 205 (-11), including a final round 65 (-7) that featured a bogey free 31 (-5) on the back nine on Sunday.

Lewis has the top spot in the lineup this week after a top-20 finish at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate on Tuesday. He’s joined by sophomore Nathan Franks, junior Rafe Reynolds and transfer Lansdon Robbins, who have all been staples in Carolina’s lineup this spring. Sophomore Gene Zeigler makes his lineup return this weekend at Forest Hills Golf Club.

The Gamecocks will be paired with Georgia Southern and UCF for the opening 36 holes tomorrow. It’s a shotgun start for the field at 8:30 a.m. (ET). Carolina will be off holes 11 through 13.Live scoring is available via Golfstat.

It’s a strong field with eight teams ranked in the top-50 (six in the top-25) of the latest Golfstat Team Rankings.
