Ayyildiz and Jamison Earn Honorable Mention All-American

AUSTIN, Texas (June 8, 2023) – South Carolina Women’s Track & Field concluded their season on Thursday night at the 2023 NCAA Championship at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. Silan Ayyildiz and Jayla Jamison ended the year with Honorable Mention All-American nods in their respective events.

“It was a tough day today with a lot of fast times out there,” added Head Coach Curtis Frye. “I told them not to let today’s race define their season. They still were able to make it this far and they worked their butts off to earn Honorable Mention All-American honors. They made it to nationals and can walk away with their heads held high knowing that. I am proud of their fight this season and I know they will be back next year hungry for more.”

Ayyildiz began the day for the Gamecocks in the 1500m race. The Turkey native turned in a time of 4:26.58 out of heat number two, finishing 24th overall and earning Honorable Mention All-American honors. Ayyildiz concludes her first outdoor season for the Gamecocks as the 2023 SEC 1500 champion (4:17.67) and the holder of the three program records: 1500m (4:12.11), 4x800m relay (8:40.20) and the distance medley relay (11:19.09).

Jamison capped off the Gamecock participation for the women, competing in the 200m sprint. The Columbia native finished 19th overall with a time of 23.16 (0.5). Jamison ends her season with the third best 100m dash (11.11) in Gamecock outdoor history, as well as the fourth-best 200m sprint (22.71).

South Carolina will conclude the men’s portion of the NCAA Championship tomorrow as Anass Essayi looks to make history in the 1500m at 9:12 p.m. (ET).
