Newcomer Brinley Murphy Named USA TODAY Girls Soccer Player of the Year

Incoming freshman Brinley Murhpy has been named the 2022-23 USA TODAY High School Sports Awards Girls Soccer Player of the Year, as announced by the outlet on Sunday night.

Murphy, the 2022-23 Gatorade Tennessee Girls Soccer Player of the Year, dominated on the pitch her senior season with Bearden High after powering the Lady Bulldogs to a 24-0 season, a second consecutive AAA state championship, and a 47-game win streak.

As a forward, Murphy had 41 goals and 22 assists, and was named the United Soccer Coaches 2022 national player of the year. Murphy set a school record for most goals in a season, in addition to most goals in a career at 110.

Murphy was named the winner from a team of 25 nominees picked from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Winners were picked in 31 individual sports. Additionally, nine premier awards were given, including Boys and Girls Athletes of the Year, Boys and Girls Teams of the Year, Boys and Girls Coaches of the Year, Special Olympics Athlete of the Year, and the Courage Award.

The USA TODAY High School Sports Awards is the largest high school athletic recognition program in the country with 14 regional award shows and one national awards program.
