Verzyl Claims Three Bronze Medals for Team USA

Chengdu, China – South Carolina diving’s Sophie Verzyl claimed three bronze medals at the FISU World University Games in China this August out of five events competed.

Verzyl, a native of Columbia, claimed bronze medals in the 1-meter springboard, 3-meter springboard, and in the women’s team event. Her three medals helped the U.S. to rank seventh out of nine countries represented in the diving discipline with the American team claiming a total of four metals combined – all bronze.

Verzyl scored a 253.45 in the 1-meter event, a 316.45 in the 3-meter event, and helped Team USA to a 2120.52 in the team event. The other events she competed in included the mixed synchronized 3-meter where she placed fourth and the women’s synchronized 3-meter where she placed sixth.

Across the full World University Games, Team USA placed 24th with a total of 23 medals. Verzyl’s three medals led the American squad with no other U.S. competitors earning more than two.
