Gamecocks Wrap-Up Day One of SEC Match Play

Carpenter and Harris lead Carolina in round two at Country Club of Birmingham with 2-under 69s

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina concluded the opening two rounds of the SEC Fall Preview on Monday at Country Club of Birmingham. The Gamecocks sit 14^th at 8-over with rounds of 291 (+7) and 285 (+1) today.

Transfer Frankie Harris and freshman Bo Carpenter led Carolina in the second round firing a pair of 2-under 69s. Harris made a team-high six birdies. It’s the first career score in the 60s for Carpenter, a talented first-year player out of Tifton, Ga.

Harris T-44^th at 1-over through 36 holes and Carpenter is T-53^rd at 3-over through two rounds. Sophomore Zach Adams (72, +1) and junior Nathan Franks (75, +4) were the final counting scores in round two for the Gamecocks.

In round one, Franks led the way with an even par 71. He was bogey free on the back nine with a trio of birdies. Junior transfer Laurens Schulze-Doering also shot 71 (E) the first round in his Gamecock debut.

No. 6 Auburn has a two-shot lead over Arkansas at 30-under. The tigers shot 264 (-20) in round two. World Amateur No. 2 Gordon Sargent of Vanderbilt has a three-shot lead at 13-under thanks to rounds of 64 (-7) and 65 (-6) today.

The Gamecocks will play in a foursome tomorrow with No. 20 Georgia, Kentucky and Missouri. Schulze-Doering will be the first player off for Carolina at 9:30 a.m. (ET) from hole 10. Live scoring will be available again via Golf Genuis.
