Gamecocks Defeat Kentucky, 3-2, at SEC Fall Preview

Sophomore Zach Adams picked up the decisive third point with a late 2&1 victory

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – South Carolina prevailed 3-2 over Kentucky in the match play portion of the SEC Fall Preview on Wednesday. The Gamecocks got a 2&1 comeback win from sophomore Zach Adams to earn the decisive third point over the Wildcats.

The match was tied on the back nine but Adams won two of the final three holes to earn the victory. Carolina also got comfortable wins from its transfer duo of Laurens Schulze-Doering and Frankie Harris.

Schulze-Doering won 4&3 and did not trail at any point in the match after winning the opening two holes. Harris also cruised to a 5&4 win. He won five of the first seven holes in the match and did not trail.

Freshman Bo Carpenter was 2-down with six holes to play but tied things up with two holes remaining. UK’s Campbell Kremer won the eighth hole and halved the ninth with Carpenter to prevail 1-up. The Wildcats’ Alex Goff defeated Nathan Franks, 5&4.

The Gamecocks will be home for a few days before traveling back west to compete in the Blessings Collegiate Invitational Oct. 2-4. It’ll be the team’s second all-time appearance at the event hosted by Arkansas at Blessings Golf Club, the host site for the 2019 NCAA Championship. Golf Channel will provide live TV coverage all three days of the event.
