South Carolina to Take on Texas A&M in Quarterfinals of SEC Tournament
COLUMBIA, S.C. – The No. 3 seed South Carolina women’s soccer team (11-1-6, 5-0-5) is set take on the No. 6 seed Aggies of Texas A&M (8-6-4, 4-3-3) in Tuesday’s quarterfinal matchup of the SEC tournament in Pensacola, Fla. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m. ET and will be live on the SEC Network.
LAST TIME OUT
South Carolina finished SEC play undefeated for the first time since 2019 after a 0-0 draw against Florida this past Thursday, Oct. 26 in Gainesville. Each side finished even in shots-on-goal (3) and corner kicks (4). Fifth-year keeper Heather Hinz made three saves on the night and secured her 12th shutout of the season and the 31st of her career. Hinz finished the regular season allowing just four goals through SEC play, placing her at the No. 2 spot in the conference record books. South Carolina returns to Pensacola as the defending tournament champions after defeating Alabama to win the tournament title back in 2023.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
Tuesday’s matchup will be the 14th meeting all-time between the Gamecocks and Aggies with A&M holding a 6-5-2 advantage in the series. This will be the sixth meeting between the two programs in the SEC tournament. Carolina looks to even the tournament series at three games having won the last two matchups dating back to Nov. of 2016. Just two weeks ago South Carolina visited College Station, coming away with a 1-0 victory. Sophomore defender Gracie Falla scored the first goal of her career in the game coming off an assist from junior midfielder Lily Render.
Texas A&M also wrapped up regular season play with a 0-0 draw this past Thursday against LSU in Baton Rouge. The Aggies held an advantage in shots-on-goal (4-3) and corners kicks (8-2) but were unable to find the back of the net. A&M’s best scoring chances came in the first half, but LSU goalkeeper Mollie Swift made four saves to keep the Aggies scoreless in the contest.
