Strachan Named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week
University of South Carolina senior defensive end Jordan Strachan has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Lineman of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Strachan, a 6-5, 243-pounder from Kingsland, Ga., was credited with a pair of sacks, including a strip sack in the final minute to secure the Gamecocks’ 17-14 win over Kentucky. The sack and forced fumble that was recovered by teammate Tonka Hemingway came at midfield with just two minutes remaining and the Gamecocks clinging to a three-point lead. Strachan led a defense that limited the Wildcats to just 293 total yards of offense, including just 122 on the ground and 171 through the air.
Strachan is the third Gamecock to earn SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week honors this season, joining T.J. Sanders (Georgia) and Alex Huntley (Mississippi State).
Strachan and the Gamecocks (5-6) will wrap up the 2023 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 25, when they host the Clemson Tigers (7-4) in the annual Palmetto Bowl. Game time is set for 7:30 pm at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia and the game will be televised on the SEC Network.
