Three Gamecocks Named to Coaches All-SEC Teams
Hunter Rogers, Xavier Legette and Trey Knox represented South Carolina on the 2023 All-Southeastern Conference football teams as selected by the league’s 14 coaches, it was announced today. Rogers earned a spot on the first team as a long snapper, while Legette and Knox were second team selections at wide receiver and tight end, respectively.
Rogers, a 6-1, 202-pound redshirt junior from Columbia’s Spring Valley High School, handled both the long- and short-snapping duties for the second-straight season. The Gamecocks did not have any kicks blocked during the season and Rogers was credited with three tackles on punt coverage despite only 11 punts returned all season. He was a second team All-SEC long snapper in 2022.
Legette, a 6-3, 227-pound senior from Mullins, S.C., was one of 10 semifinalists for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top receiver, and was an A.P. Midseason Second-Team All-American. He led the Gamecocks with 71 receptions for 1,255 yards, and seven receiving touchdowns. His 1,255 receiving yards was the second-highest single-season mark in school history. Legette averaged 104.6 receiving yards per game (2nd in the SEC), 17.7 yards per reception (7th in the SEC) and 5.9 receptions per game (4th in the SEC) and logged six 100-yard receiving games. He also returned 10 kickoffs for a 21.3-yard average. He was named a second team All-SEC performer at both wide receiver and as an all-purpose performer by the Associated Press earlier in the week.
Knox, a 6-5, 237-pound graduate student from Murfreesboro, Tenn., was second on the team with 37 receptions for 312 yards and a pair of touchdowns. A starter in all 10 games in which he appeared, Knox logged 33 of his 37 catches in SEC contests. His best games came against Florida (8 catches for 50 yards and a touchdown) and at Tennessee (7 catches for 51 yards).
