Gamecocks to Compete in Tennessee Diving Invitational
Knoxville, Tenn. – South Carolina’s divers will kick off the new year with a trip to Knoxville, Tenn., to participate in the Tennessee Diving Invitational from Jan. 3-5 at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center. The Gamecocks will compete against divers from Auburn, Florida, Georgia, LSU, NC State, SMU, Virginia Tech and host Tennessee.
The format of the event will include prelims and finals for both springboard events with the top 12 scorers from prelims advancing to the finals. The platform diving event will be finals only. Events will run simultaneously with finals immediately following prelims each day.
Leading South Carolina’s women is Blair Isenhour who has five top-three finishes on the season including a win in the 3-meter event at the Gamecocks season opener at UNCW. She has already achieved NCAA Zone qualifying scores on both springboards
Leading the men is sophomore Charley Bayer. Bayer has five top-three finishes on the season including a win on the 1-meter board versus North Carolina. At the Tennessee Invitational in November, Bayer finished third in the field on the 1-meter board out of a field of 25 competitors. He has also earned Zone qualifying scores in both springboard events.
The Tennessee Diving Invitational will be the divers final regular-season opportunity to achieve NCAA Zone qualifying scores in the platform event. Freshman Max Spencer is the only Gamecock to achieve the feat so far this season.
Admission to the meet is free to the public and fans not in attendance can watch on SEC Network+. Live stats will be available on DiveMeets.
