Baseball No-Hits Miami (Ohio) to Complete Series Sweep
COLUMBIA – Five University of South Carolina pitchers combined for the Gamecocks’ eighth no-hitter in school history as the Gamecocks completed a three-game sweep of Miami (Ohio), 14-0, in seven innings on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 18) at Founders Park.
Roman Kimball, Ty Good, Tyler Pitzer, Parker Marlatt and Tyler Dean combined to strike out nine in the seven innings. Kimball, who did not pitch in 2023 due to injury, struck out five in a two-inning start. Good also went two innings and had two strikeouts. Pitzer and Marlatt had a strikeout apiece in an inning and Dean closed out with a 1-2-3 seventh.
The Carolina offense gave the pitchers more than enough in the first, scoring seven runs as 11 hitters came to the plate. The Gamecocks walked six times and were hit by one pitch. Dylan Brewer had the big hit, a two-run single to center. Carolina scored five runs in the fourth as Gavin Casas plated with a double to right and Cole Messina drove in a pair with a single, and two in the sixth.
Messina had three RBI on the day, while Brewer and Gavin Casas had two RBI apiece. Talmadge LeCroy scored three runs while Parker Noland joined Brewer with two hits apiece.

POSTGAME NOTES
- The no-hitter was the eighth all-time in school history and the first since Feb. 24, 2013, against Albany. Colby Holmes, Forest Koumas and Josh Knab combined for the no-hitter against the Great Danes.
- This is also the second no-hitter for the Gamecocks in the 21st century. The last before 2013 came on Mar. 26, 1975, when Ray Lavigne tossed a no-hitter against George Mason.
- The Gamecocks tallied four innings this weekend with five or more runs. Across the three games, Carolina scored 30 runs on 24 hits and surrendered just five runs on 11 hits.
- Kimball picked up his first career victory in the Garnet and Black for Carolina.
- Austin Brinling, Kennedy Jones, Tyler Zedalis, Kimball, Good, Pitzer, Marlatt and Dean all made their first appearance in a Carolina uniform in Sunday’s win.
- Jones and Carson Hornung each had a hit in their first at-bat of 2024 in today’s win.
- The sweep marks the 26th straight opening weekend series victory for the Gamecocks.
