Baseball Falls to Belmont Saturday Afternoon
COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team dropped its first game of the 2024 season in an 11-2 loss to Belmont Saturday afternoon (Feb. 24) at Founders Park.
Carolina went up 1-0 on Gavin Casas’ double to right in the fourth frame but Belmont answered with three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. Dylan Brewer’s RBI triple in the sixth cut the Bruin lead to 5-2 but three runs in the eighth and three more in the ninth gave Belmont the Saturday victory.
Brewer had two hits to lead the offense. On the mound, Dylan Eskew took the loss, allowing four earned runs and three hits with three strikeouts and a walk in five-plus innings.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Carolina only walked twice today after walking 66 times in the first six games.
- Brewer has a five-game hit streak and has reached base in all seven games.
- The two teams combined for six errors in the game.
