No. 22 Gamecocks End Weekend with 4-1 Victory

ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 22 South Carolina softball team (18-2) finished its weekend at the Knights Classic undefeated, as the Gamecocks took down Princeton (5-4) 4-1 Sunday morning (March 3).

Carlie Henderson led Carolina at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored. The No. 1-4 hitters for the Gamecocks each collected a hit.

In the circle, Sage Mardjetko (5-1) threw a complete game, allowing two hits and striking out a season-high eight batters.

South Carolina got the scoring going early when Kianna Jones led off the bottom of the first with a single. Riley Blampied followed when she connected on her second home run of the season into the trees in left field.

In the second, Jen Cummings drew a leadoff walk and pinch runner Kyye Ricks stole second. Henderson brought Ricks home on an infield single off the first baseman’s outstretched glove.

Henderson singled to lead off the fifth, before moving to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brooke Blankenship, and third on a flyout by Jones. She would come home when ball four to Blampied bounced in the dirt, allowing her to score from third.

The Tigers lone run came in the sixth on a walk and a single.

The Gamecocks return home to host USC Upstate Wednesday (March 6) at 6 p.m.
