Women’s Tennis Falls at LSU

Baton Rouge, La. – No. 14 South Carolina women’s tennis fell 1-4 to LSU on the road on Sunday. The Gamecocks lone point came from the top of the singles lineup where No. 7 Ayana Akli recorded a straight set win.

In her singles victory, Akli defeated Florentine Dekker 6-2, 7-6(5) to claim her 19th victory of the season. Akli also recorded a doubles win on the day with partner Sarah Hamner. The duo, ranked No. 45 in the ITA doubles rankings, defeated Anita Sahdiieva and Kenna Erickson 7-6(6) at the top on the doubles lineup for their fifth win together this season.

Despite the pairs win, the Gamecocks dropped the doubles point from losses at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions. The Tigers claimed singles victories at No. 4, 3, and 6 to clinch the match. Both Hamner and graduate Elise Mills were both in third sets when play was suspended

South Carolina will return home a four-match homestand next, starting with a battle against Tennessee on March 8 at 5:00 p.m.
