Baseball Wins Sunday Game at Ole Miss
OXFORD – The University of South Carolina baseball team closed out its series with Ole Miss with a 6-2 win on Sunday afternoon (March 17) at Swayze Field.
The Gamecocks went up 2-0 in the second frame as Tyler Causey’s belted his third home run of the year, a two-run shot to the bullpen in left. Parker Noland added a run in the second with an RBI single.
The Gamecocks then scored three runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double to left field. Ole Miss scored a pair of runs in the sixth frame, but that was all the Rebels put on the scoreboard as Carolina won the final game of the series.
Matthew Becker was outstanding in relief, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing four hits and two runs with four strikeouts and no walks to earn his fourth win of the year. Garrett Gainey pitched the final two frames, striking out two to preserve the victory.
LeCroy was 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. Blake Jackson, who made a tremendous catch in the seventh inning, Kennedy Jones and Noland had two hits apiece.
POSTGAME NOTES
- Becker had a season high in innings pitched and was just off his career high of six innings, set against Texas on March 13, 2022.
- Jones went 7-for-12 with three runs scored, two doubles, a home run and two RBI in the Ole Miss series.
- Gainey now has a 0.87 ERA after his two scoreless innings.
