Franks Wins Schenkel Invitational, Gamecocks Finish Fifth

Junior notches second win in three spring starts

STATESBORO, Ga. – Junior Nathan Franks fired another red number to win by three shots on Sunday at the Schenkel Invitational. He shot 68 (-4) in the final round for a 54-hole total of 203 (-13), a new career-best mark by the three-year starter.

It’s Franks’ second win in three spring starts. He made 21 birdies over 54 holes and led the field in par-5 scoring average (4.17, -10).

As a team, the Gamecocks shot 285 (-3) today to move up two spots on the leaderboard and finish fifth. Carolina posted a 54-hole total of 849 (-15), picking up head-to-head wins over SEC foes No. 25 Mississippi State and Kentucky. No. 17 Florida won the tournament by four shots over Notre Dame with a 54-hole total of 837 (-27).

Sophomore transfer Frankie Harris fired a red number with a final round 71 (-1) to finish just outside the top-25, T-23^rd at 3-under for the tournament. Freshman Bo Carpenter shot even par in round three and sophomore Zach Adams was the final counting score with a 74 (+2). Sixth-year Lansdon Robbins also shot 74 (+2).

The Gamecocks will be back action again next Sunday with the opening round of the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in The Lowcountry.
