Women’s Swimming Sends Nine to NCAAs

Athens, Ga. – South Carolina women’s swimming will begin competition at the NCAA Championships this Wednesday in Athens, Ga. The Gamecocks have six individuals competing at the event and will be sending a total of nine swimmers to participate.

The NCAA Championships will begin on Wednesday, March 20, and will run through Saturday, March 23 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium at the University of Georgia.

South Carolina had six swimmers earn automatic qualifying times this year, highlighted by sophomore Amy Riordan who earned qualifying times in three events. Riordan qualified in the 100 back, 200 back, and 200 free. She will be joined in both the 100 and 200 backstroke events by senior Bella Pantano.

The Gamecock’s fly group also has a strong showing at the NCAAs with Greta Pelzek, Nicholle Toh, and Jorgan Agliano all competing in both the 100 and 200 fly events. Pelzek will also compete in the 200 IM.

Rounding out South Carolina’s individual event qualifiers in sophomore Meaghan Harnish who will compete in both the 200 breast and the 400 IM.

Riordan earned South Carolina’s highest seeded time at the event, coming in at No. 9 in the 200 back with a 1:52.05. Also with a top-10 seed is Pelzek who sits at 10th fastest in the country in the 200 fly with a 1:53.43. At the NCAA Championships, the top eight placers will advance to the A-finals and the No. 9-16 placers with compete in the B-final.

In addition to the individual event qualifiers, the Gamecocks will also send junior Peyton Curry, sophomore Dylan Scholes, and freshman Ellery Ottem to the meet to participate in relays. South Carolina has an entry in both the 400 and 800 free relays.

Prelims at the national meet will begin Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with finals on all four days at 6:00 p.m.
