Eight Swimmers Named to CSC Academic All-District Team
Columbia, S.C. – Eight of South Carolina’s swimmers were named to the 2024 Academic All-District Swim & Dive Team as selected by College Sports Communicators (CSC). The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom.
The women’s team is represented by seniors Bella Pantano and Nicholle Toh, junior Greta Pelzek, and sophomore Amy Riordan. The men’s team representatives are seniors Jackson Davis and Daniel West, and juniors Wylie Kruse and Linus Kahl.
For both Pantano and West, this marks their second appearance on the Academic All-District Team while the honor is a first for all other representatives.
Pantano, a management major with a mass communications minor, made the finals of all three of her individual events at the SEC Championships and finished 11th in the 200 back. She earned an invitation to the NCAA Championships where she placed 22nd in the 200 back and is the sixth-fastest in program history in the 100 fly, second-fastest in 100 back, and fourth-fastest in 200 back.
Toh earned her undergraduate degree in December and is now pursuing a certificate in global strategy. She made the finals of both butterfly events at the SEC Championships and finished seventh in the 100 fly. Toh also earned an invitation to the NCAA Championships where she placed 36th in the 100 fly and 38th in the 200 fly. She is the second-fastest in program history in the 100 fly and third-fastest in 200 fly.
Pelzek, who is on her way to a BA in psychology, earned a silver medal in the 200 fly at SEC Championships and was South Carolina’s leading scorer at both the SEC Championships and NCAA Championships. She earned a tenth-place finish in the 200 fly at NCAA Championships and was named an CSCAA All-American Honorable Mention. Pelzek holds the school record in both the 100 fly and 200 fly and is third-fastest in program history in the 200 IM.
Riodan, a biological science major, earned a fourth-place finish in 200 back at SEC Championships and was South Carolina’s second-highest scorer at both the SEC Championships and NCAA Championships. She placed 15th in the 200 back at NCAA Championships and earned All-American Honorable Mention honors. She holds the school record in the 200 free, 100 back, 200 back, and 400 free relay (leadoff) as well as the third-fastest in program history in 100 free and second-fastest in 500 free.
Davis is an operations and supply chain major who competed in three individual events at the SEC Championships with his highest finish at 36th in the 100 back. He is the tenth-falsest in program history in 50 free.
West, a marine science major, scored five points at the SEC Championships thanks to a finals appearance in the 200 breast where he placed 20th. He swam an NCAA B-cut in the 200 breast this season and is part of the school record holding 200 medley relay team as the breaststroke leg. He is also eighth-fastest in program history in 100 breast and seventh-fastest in 200 breast.
Kruse is majoring in real estate and tallied four points at the SEC Championships thanks to a finals appearance in the 200 back where he placed 21st. His time was an NCAA B-cut. Kruse is the fourth-fastest in program history in 200 IM, sixth-fastest in 100 back, and second-fastest in 200 back.
Kahl is a services management major and was South Carolina’s leading men’s scorer at SEC Championships with 49 points. He made the finals of all three individual events at the SEC Championships (10th in 100 breast, 11th in both 100 fly and 200 breast) and swam NCAA B-cut times in the 100 fly, 100 breast and 200 breast. He holds the school record in the 100 fly and is the fourth-fastest in program history in 100 breast and third-fastest in 200 breast.
