Gamecocks Shutout No. 21 Wildcats for Series Win

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Behind three solo home runs, the South Carolina softball team (32-17, 8-13) earned the series win over Kentucky (30-18, 8-13) 3-0 Sunday afternoon (April 28).

Riley Blampied led the way for Carolina going 2-for-3 with a home run. The top of the Gamecock batting order accounted for five of their six hits.

Sage Mardjetko (8-6) threw her first complete game shutout of the season, scattering five hits and striking out seven.

South Carolina jumped out to the early lead for the third time this weekend scoring twice in the top of the first. On the first pitch to Riley Blampied with one out, she connected on her fifth home run of the season to left center. Four pitches later it was Zoe Laneaux connecting on her third home run of the year.

The Gamecocks added to the lead in the fifth when Denver Bryant hit her second home run of the season, a solo shot to left center.

Mardjetko got out of a jam in the sixth as Kentucky had runners on second and third, but she struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

South Carolina returns home to host USC Upstate Wednesday at 6 p.m.
