COLUMBIA – The University of South Carolina baseball team went 1-3 on the week, defeating Winthrop in seven innings Tuesday at Rock Hill before being swept by Georgia this weekend.

NOTES:
Austin Brinling continued his hot hitting at the top of the lineup this week. The fifth-year senior was 4-for-5 with his first home run as a Gamecock in Tuesday night’s win over Winthrop. Brinling then was 6-for-13 at the plate vs. Georgia with four runs scored and three walks. He had four hits in Saturday’s game.

Kennedy Jones drove in eight runs in the first two games of the week. He had five RBI, including a home run, in the Winthrop win and followed it with a three-RBI performance on Thursday against Georgia. Jones now has 46 RBI on the season.

Blake Jackson currently leads the team with a .310 batting average. He has nine doubles, two triples, four home runs and 23 RBI while stealing a team-best 15 bases. Jackson had three hits and three runs in the Georgia series.

As of May 12, Carolina is in seventh place in the overall SEC standings and fourth in the SEC East with one series remaining. Carolina has an RPI of 17, according to Warren Nolan, as of May 12 with the ninth-best strength of schedule in the country.

The Gamecocks close out the regular season with a Thursday-Saturday series at No. 1 Tennessee. All three games are streamed on SEC Network Plus.
