Swimmers Conclude U.S. Olympic Trials with Pair of Top-20 Finishes

Indianapolis, Ind. – South Carolina swimming concluded action at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials on Thursday with the event highlighted by rising senior Greta Pelzek advancing to the semifinals of the 200 fly on Wednesday.

Pelzek, the 2024 SEC silver medalist in the SCY version of the event, swam a new personal best LCM time of 2:11.70 in the prelims to place 16th and book her spot in the semifinals. In the semis, Pelzek continued to drop time, shaving over half a second off for a 2:11.06, placing 15th. Pelzek also competed in the 100 fly where she placed 30th (59.51).

Also recording a top-20 finish was rising sophomore Delaney Franklin. The Seneca, S.C., native finished just outside of the semifinal cut in 18th place with a time of 2:30.89 in the 200 breast.

The Gamecock women wrapped action at the meet on a high note with recent grad Bella Pantano recording a new personal best time of 2:13.06 in the 200 back to place 26th. Pantano also appeared in the 100 back where she finished 48th .

Other notable performances at the Trials included Amy Riordan placing 35th in the 200 free, Meaghan Harnish placing 38th in the 400 IM, and Jordan Agliano placing 47th in the 200 back.

For the men, rising sophomore Raymond Prosinski posted the best finish of the event, placing 33rd in the 400 IM with a 4:23.66 on Sunday. Rising senior Wylie Kruse also finished in the top-35, placing 35th in the 200 back with a 2:00.85.

The men’s team was also represented by Ryan Hufford who placed 54th in the 100 back and Liam Kerns who finished 65th in the 100 breast.

South Carolina is being represented in the U.S. Olympic Diving Trials by redshirt junior Sophie Verzyl on the 3-meter board. Verzyl advanced to the semifinals on Thursday morning and will compete again for a spot in the finals on Thursday evening at 5:00 p.m.
